Community & Health Sciences: Research Resource Guide

Evaluation Information and Sources

By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

  • understand the importance of evaluating sources and information;
  • understand why it is necessary to ask critical questions when considering to use a source or information for a research task; and
  • understand the CRAAP evaluation method and how to apply it.

NB: Before you move onto the NEXT LESSON, please click on the NEXT TAB (CRAAP Evaluation Method) to complete this lesson.

To evaluate a source, ask yourself a series of questions that address Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose (also known as CRAAP questions!).

This process will help you determine if a source is credible; if a source provides you with high-quality information, if the information is useful in answering your questions and meeting your information need.

Please watch the following video tutorial (3m:53s) to help you walk through the evaluation process.

NB: You have completed this lesson and may now proceed to the NEXT LESSON.
