How the Faculty Librarian: Community and Health Sciences (CHS) can Help

Do you need assistance finding relevant information for your research?

Are you a student or researcher struggling to develop search strategies?

Do you need help searching databases, conducting a grey literature search, or managing your citations?

The CHS Faculty Librarians are pleased to offer a variety of literature search services to students and researchers and consist of the following elements:

  • Assistance finding relevant information for your research.
  • Identify relevant databases and gray literature resources in which to conduct literature searches related to your topic.
  • Design and implement complex, comprehensive search strategies to maximize retrieval of relevant studies.
  • Create search alerts to ensure that new studies are found while the systematic review is in progress.
  • Use citation management software, such as Endnote and Mendeley to manage the study gathering and selection process.
  • Track down hard-to-find full text articles for screening and review.

Inter Library Loans (ILL) Services

Requesting Full Text Articles & Books

The Interlibrary Loans (ILL) system allows for material (ie, books and journal articles) not held in our library, to be borrowed from other libraries within the system, or from libraries abroad if not available locally. Users can request books or journal articles by clicking here to complete a form or email your requests to interlending@uwc.ac.za

Library Research Support Services

Your Faculty Librarian can provide valuable support for your research in particular assisting with research-level enquiries, literature reviews, current awareness, use of specialist materials (including electronic resources), reference management, assist with open access publishing, copyright issues, running subject specific  classes as well as one on one consultations.

Besides rendering a physical Reference Service, the Faculty Librarians also provide  an Online Reference Service called Ask a Librarian. To make use of our Online Reference Service, go to the Library webpage, you will see a blue tab at the bottom on your right hand side. Please click on the tab and perform your request.

Division of Postgraduate Studies (DPGS): Postgraduate Research Commons

The Divison of Postgraduate Studies  provides support through consultation with writing and statistics coaches on duty at the Postgraduate Resource Commons (PRC)- Level 13, Main Library.

Operating times:

  • Mondays to Thursdays: 8h30-24h00
  • Fridays: 8h30-20h00
  • Saturdays: Open on certain Saturdays until 17h00

Common Rooms: 4 common rooms, each accommodating between 12 and 30 students provide reading space and computer access. Time tables are available on the web portal.
