Welcome to the University of the Western Cape Library Distance Information Guide for students, staff, and researchers. The library has a goal of providing the same or similar level of resources and services to those learning, teaching, working, or researching off-campus. Although you may not be able to physically get to the library, you can still access books, journals, and other media either by requesting to have them delivered to you electronically or having them mailed to you. Please take your time and navigate through this Library support guide to help you get to know the library and how it can make your life a little bit easier.

This resource guide provides information and links to resources that are useful for Public Health courses. The library collects and subscribes to print and online resources to support your information needs. To access the list of key resources in Public Health, as well as guidance on searching databases for journal articles and books by navigating the tabs on your left hand side.

Do you need help searching databases, conducting a grey literature search, or managing your citations?

The CHS Faculty Librarian is pleased to offer a variety of literature search services to students and researchers and consist of the following elements:

  • Assistance finding relevant information for your research.
  • Identify relevant databases and gray literature resources in which to conduct literature searches related to your topic.
  • Design and implement complex, comprehensive search strategies to maximize retrieval of relevant studies.
  • Create search alerts to ensure that new studies are found while the systematic review is in progress.
  • Use citation management software, such as Endnote and Mendeley to manage and organise your  research references.
  • Assistance with manual referencing using APA or Havard referencing styles.
  • Track down hard-to-find full text articles for screening and review.

Library Login Credentials

What credentials should I use in order to logon to my UWC library account, or to sign into EZproxy when trying to access online journals from off campus.

New Students

1st time and First Year UWC students, including students who have been assigned new student numbers when registering for the 2021 academic year.

  •  Username: student number e.g. 4112117

  •  Password (Should contain the prefix !St followed by your ID, or passport number if you’re an international student)

Returning Students

  • Username: student number e.g. 4112117

  • Password (ID number or passport number for international students)

 Changing Password

 If your password doesn’t work or if you need to change it for whatever reason. You can do so at the     

 following website.

 Problems changing your Password

 If you experience problems resetting your password, you can contact the ICS service desk via email at      servicedesk@uwc.ac.za (telephone number: 959 2000). Request that the call centre agent assist you in resetting your network password.

 NB: Changing your password will change your password for all of the following accounts that you may   use; iKamva.uwc.ac.za, uKwazi library account, EZproxy, VPN, Intranet.
