The use of third party data is not uncommon. Citing a dataset, however, is required. There is no particular style for citing a dataset, but there are basic elements to include, especially when a dataset has been published online. The following elements should be included when citing a dataset:
- author,
- title,
- year of publication,
- publisher (institution),
- edition or version (where applicable),
- Persistent identifier (Hyperlink, DoI, URL, etc)
