Law: Introduction to Research

Research in law, is designed to introduce you to the skills required to develop and complete a legal research project.

Referencing

Referencing allows readers to trace (and use) your sources, just as you have done from the works of others. It gives credit to others, where it is due, and avoids any possible accusation of plagiarism, which is passing off the work of others as if it were your own.

Using a reference management tool

During your research, it is important that you keep track of the articles and papers that you read as part of your literature review. You should also keep a record of any legislation or case law you research. You may wish to use a reference management tool (also known as ‘bibliographic management software’) to manage your reference list. There are many such tools available, both basic and advanced for example Mendeley and EndNote.
