How to Download and Install EndNote

EndNote for Windows

  1. Sign in with your campus email
    Before proceeding, make sure you're signed into your campus Google account (e.g., staff@uwc.ac.za or student@myuwc.ac.za).

    If you're not signed into your campus email account, you may see this error:
    “You need access”
    You are signed in as you@gmail.com and do not have permission to access this item.
  2. Download the installer
    Click the link below to be taken to the download location for the EndNote installation file for Windows:
    Download EndNote
  3. Download the (En2025Inst.EXE) installation file.
  4. Install EndNote
    Double-click the downloaded file (En2025Inst.EXE) to begin installation.
    Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
    If Windows Defender shows a warning, click More info then Run anyway.

EndNote for macOS

  3. Download the (EndNote2025SiteInstaller.dmg) installation file.
  4. Install EndNote
    Open the downloaded file (EndNote2025SiteInstaller.dmg).
    Drag the EndNote application to your Applications folder.

EndNote 2025 essentials

By the end of this session, you will be equipped to create and save a new EndNote library locally, manually create references, and export references from online databases. Duration: 22 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will be able to organize references with library tags, groups, and group sets, manage in-text citations using basic Cite While You Write functions, and choose output styles for journal-specific formatting. Duration: 13 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will be able to import PDFs and extract citation metadata, annotate attached PDFs with searchable sticky notes, and locate missing full-text PDFs using Find Full Text. Duration: 14 minutes.

 

Advanced features in EndNote 2025

By the end of this session, you will learn to synchronize your EndNote library with EndNote Web and secondary devices using the Sync command. You will manage access rights for up to 1,000 Library Sharing members and track changes in shared libraries via the Activity Feed. Duration: 15 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will learn to modify in-text citations with the Edit & Manage Citation(s) tool, customize bibliographies using Configure Bibliography settings, and toggle Instant Formatting to handle unformatted citations Duration: 28 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will learn to update references automatically with Find Reference Updates, create smart groups for efficient project categorization, and use combination groups to compare and analyze references across multiple groups. Duration: 14 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will learn to create backups to secure and restore your EndNote library, edit multiple records efficiently with the Change/Move/Copy Fields function, and use Find and Replace to globally update terms or fix errors. Duration: 16 minutes.

By the end of this session, you will learn to identify retracted articles with Retraction Watch integration, remove duplicate references using the Find Duplicates tool, and perform advanced searches across groups, group sets, and your entire library. Duration: 17 minutes.

I see a “You need access” error. What should I do?
You are likely signed into a personal Gmail account. Please sign out and log back in using your campus email (e.g., staff@uwc.ac.za or student@myuwc.ac.za)

Which email address should I use?
Only users with a campus-managed Google account (ending in @uwc.ac.za or @myuwc.ac.za) can access the files.

Do I need a license key?
No. A license key is not required. Installation is enabled through the file provided.

Can I install EndNote on multiple devices?
Yes, you may install EndNote on three devices
