Newspapers

Notes:

  • Newspapers and magazines are NOT acceptable academic sources unless as objects of research.
  • Follow these examples closely for all layout, punctuation, spacing and capitalising.
  • In the reference list, the page numbers of newspaper articles must be preceded by p. or pp. If the article is printed on more than one page, give all the page numbers separated by a comma.
  • In cases where a print publication publishes an 'online only' article on their website, treat it as an online article. 

Print newspaper article

Format:

Author, A. A. (YYYY, Month DD). Title of article. Newspaper Title, page–page. 

Example:

Ned Temko. (2020, June 08), Israel, South Africa, and the “deal of the century.” The Christian Science Monitor, p. 12).

 

Online newspaper article

Format:

Author, A. A. (YYYY, Month DD). Title of article. Newspaper Title. https://xxxxx

Example:

Bester, J. (2020, June 8). KitKat got your tongue? Cape Town woman ‘nauseous’ after biting into piece of glue. IOL. https://www.iol.co.za/lifestyle/food-drink/kitkat-got-your-tongue-cape-town-woman-nauseous-after-biting-into-piece-of-glue-76a24775-f8f4-42d2-9891-20f48a5933d7
