Information Literacy Tutorial

A module-based information literacy tutorial that addresses each stage of the research process, including selecting a topic, identifying information needs, selecting sources, locating information, evaluating information, and citing sources.

Learning Outcomes

Searching eDatabases:

    • Define the terms: database, record and field.
    • Describe the function of two types of databases: library catalogue and article databases.
    • Select an appropriate research database for a topic.

  • Identify the main concepts of a research topic and generate a list of search terms.

    • Use AND, NOT, OR (Boolean operators) to connect search terms.

  • Compare and contrast subject and keyword searching.

  • Define truncation, phrase searching and field-specific searching.
